Leona Tate, Founder and Executive Director - Leona Tate Foundation for Change
Leona Tate
Ms.Tate played a crucial early role in the Civil Rights Movement, becoming one of the first African Americans to attend a formerly white-only school in Louisiana. In 2009, she created the Leona Tate Foundation for Change (LTFC) to continue educating the public, in particular young people, on the lessons of Civil Rights and minorities’ struggle for equality. The Leona Tate Foundation for Change, Inc was born on the principle that in order to achieve harmony among humankind, every person should be afforded comparable opportunities and exposures. A component essential to implementing this principle is providing access to equal educational opportunities for greater New Orleans area youth.
Princess Agina, Founder & Lead Facilitator - BusinessU Summer Camp and Youth Ventures
Princess Agina
Serving almost 2.5 years in the Peace Corps (in an indigenous community in Costa Rica), Princess saw how her creating leadership camps in a community that had been historically oppressed truly enacted notable change--not only in the young camp participants but for their proud parents and community as a whole. It opened up a world of opportunities that society rarely presented as possible for them. Thus, upon her return to the United States in 2018, whilst a part of the Urban Leaders Fellow cohort in New Orleans, Louisiana, Princess began creating a social entrepreneurship program for youth in the Greater New Orleans Area—Youth Ventures and subsequently the BusinessU Summer Camp.
Princess holds a bachelor’s degree in Marketing, and a minor in Psychology, from Prairie View A&M University—located near her hometown of Houston, Texas. She has previously worked as a Multicultural Marketing Strategist for Wal-Mart; served in the Peace Corps (Costa Rica) as a Community Economic Development Specialist; created and enacted equitable education policies for the New Orleans Public School System and developed affordable housing policies/community-based initiatives for the Greater New Orleans Housing Alliance as an Urban Leaders Fellow; implemented new operational strategies for Teach For America - Greater New Orleans; and currently works for the Island of Hawai'i as an Economic Development Specialist.
