Climate Challenge - Oxford Program Criteria

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a high school senior, undergraduate, or graduate student.
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited institution or have recently graduated (within the last year).
  • Strong academic record in relevant subjects (e.g., Environmental Science, Political Science, Economics, or related fields).
  • Participation in extracurricular activities related to social impact, community development, climate action, sustainability, or environmental advocacy.
  • Previous coursework or projects focused on social impact, community development, climate change or sustainable development.

Application Components:

  • Personal Information: Name, email, phone number, university, year of study, and age as of July 1, 2024.
  • Personal Statement:
    • Contribution to Group Projects and Discussions (250 words): Describe how you plan to actively contribute to group projects and discussions during the program.
    • Involvement in Climate or Social Impact Projects (250 words): Share examples of projects or initiatives you have been involved with addressing climate or social impact issues.
  • Motivation Video: Record a brief video (no longer than two minutes) explaining what motivated you to apply to the Climate Challenge - Oxford program. Upload it to WeTransfer or Google Drive and share the link with appropriate viewing permissions.
  • Scholarship Consideration: Indicate whether you would like to be considered for a need-based scholarship and if you would still like to be considered for the program if not awarded a scholarship.
  • Additional Information: Provide any additional questions or information you would like the selection committee to know about you.

Selection Criteria:

  • Academic Excellence: Strong academic performance in relevant subjects and evidence of critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Passion and Commitment: Demonstration of sustained interest in climate change and sustainability through extracurricular activities and community service.
  • Leadership and Initiative: Proven leadership experience and ability to inspire and mobilize others, with a record of developing and leading projects or initiatives.
  • Creativity and Innovation: Ability to think creatively and propose innovative solutions to climate-related challenges, with a strong project proposal showcasing vision and potential impact.

Additional Considerations:

  • Diversity and Inclusion: Efforts to ensure a diverse cohort representing different backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences. Encouragement of applications from underrepresented groups in climate action and sustainability.
  • Financial Need: Consideration of financial need to ensure accessibility for students from various socioeconomic backgrounds. Availability of scholarships or financial aid to support participation in the program.
